So I've tried to add:

in do_configure:prepend and then I've triggered the build failure again
this time with 2024.01.14 version as well by running:

so the issue isn't fixed in the 2024.01.14 version, but maybe it's
a bug introduced by our install-sh?

This install-sh has been used for performance reason, I'd like keep it
if possible. Would you please describe the failures you hit in
cross-compilation env? It'd be great if we could fix the env issue.
Also the important error isn't:

Add bindfs, a FUSE filesystem for mounting a directory to another
location, similarly to mount --bind. The permissions inside the
mountpoint can be altered using various rules. Version 1.17.5:
- Support negative --{uid,gid}-offset
- Support mount -t bindfs on Mac OS

These are test images to build all recipes in layer. Renaming them makes
them refect what they are. Moreover we can rename the ptest images to
match OE-Core naming conventions for meta-oe/meta-perl/meta-python

Building against the 6.5+ kernel and headers resulted in a build failure

GNU xorriso is simply a bundling of libisofs+libburn+libisoburn which
also "restricts itself to a technical form where the legal commitments
of the libburnia project and the legal intentions of FSF match
completely".[1] What this actually means is unclear.
We can follow upstream faster and have more modular recipes by packaging
the pieces directly, instead of building the development snapshot of GNU
xorriso 1.5.5.

This recipe is very much in the remit of meta-filesystems, so move the
recipe and update it. It ships a cdrecord wrapper so inherit lib_package,
and the license is GPLv2 or later not GPLv2 only, for example:

exfatprogs provides utilities to create, modify, and check exFAT file
systems on Linux. The developers of exfatprogs also maintain the Linux
kernel exFAT driver.
exfatprogs has replaced exfat-utils in Debian bookworm.

fuse3 test is designed to run under source dir, there are
many places like "progname = pjoin(basename, 'example', 'ioctl')"
in the testcases, which will try to find compiled program. As
our S != B, and the don't run test under source dir. Test will fail
with following errors:
No such file or directory: '/usr/lib64/fuse3/ptest/test/../example/printcap'

Btrfs requires regular maintenance in order to self-heal. Other

Layer priority is the ultimate decider of what recipe is used: if layer
A has recipe foo_1 and layer B has recipe foo_2, if layer A's priority
is higher than B then foo_1 will be used, even though the version in B
is higher, and even if PREFERRED_VERSION_foo is set to 2.
This complicates recipes moving between layers, for example when a newer
version of a recipe (say, python3-wheel) is taken from a layer with a
higher priority (say, meta-python) and moved to a layer with a lower
priority (say, oe-core) then it has to be removed before it is added:
there is no way to have it in both layers and work correctly.
Higher priorities are useful in distribution layers where you may want
to override specific recipes without any other fuss. However as all of
the layers in meta-oe simply add more recipes in defined areas, there's
no need to have a higher layer priority.

This version fails to build here with:
| ../git/configure: line 3778: syntax error near unexpected token `noext'

switching back to older version builds fine.
AX_CXX_COMPILE_STDCXX_17 was introduced in 19e7bb9b60 (diff-49473dca262eeab3b4a43002adb08b4db31020d190caaad1594b47f1d5daa810)
Adding autoconf-archive into the DEPENDS fixes the issue.

This patch updates SRC_URIs using git to include branch=master if no branch is set
and also to use protocol=https for github urls as generated by the conversion script
in OE-Core.
